Now that the election is over, it’s important that We the People remember how the
United States of America was founded. Brave and courageous folks traveled a great
distance to find a place where they could freely worship. A place where they could live
the life they chose. A place where they were responsible for their own future.
Our beautiful country’s safety and prosperity has been bought by the blood of many
men and women who laid down their lives to ensure a better future for their current and future families. Our freedom comes at great cost. It’s vital we don’t forget where we
come from and who we are.
But, there’s a much bigger and eternal picture here as well. Those who are disciples of
Jesus must remember Whose we are. Our mission statement is to love God with all our
hearts, souls and minds and to love others as we love ourselves. Our job is not to try to
control and manipulate God and others. If we are hateful and bitter towards others that
are different than us, we are no better than those who don’t understand Jesus’ Love yet.
Father God, we humans have a tendency to get so caught up in wanting what we want
and forgetting this world will not last. Whoever does what God wants is set for
eternity. (1 John 2:17) No matter who is elected this season, You already know and
You have a plan. Help me to let You be You and I’ll be me. I’m only one person, but I
can love my neighbor and keep moving forward, doing the work You prepared long
before I was born. Amen.
Now God has us where He wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to
shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all His idea, all His
work. All we do is trust Him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to
finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging
that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God
does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join
Him in the work He does, the good work He has gotten ready for us to do, work
we had better be doing. Ephesians 2:7-10 MSG
