My mom recommended the movie “Peter Rabbit” after seeing it with her
girlfriends on my parent’s annual golf trip. I’m not in the habit of watching
children’s movies, but, one quiet afternoon, I went to see it.
The setting is in the English countryside on a farm. A beautiful rooster crows the
following recurrent scene:
“Cock a doodle do! Can you believe the sun came up again? I thought for sure
after last night it would never happen again. But look, there it is! Cock a doodle
do!”
That rooster made me laugh every time his character popped up on the big
screen. Near the end of the story, as new yellow peeps climbed onto their papa,
he’s exclaim at dawn once again:
“Cock a doodle do! Kids, look at that. I thought for sure the world ended last
night, but look, there’s the sun again. Oh my! Cock a doodle do!”
Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.”
Hosea 6:3
Father God, as my dear friend says, the sunrise reminds her that You are still
there. Even after the darkest of nights. You remain faithful and this planet shouts
Your Truth! Thank You. Amen.
"But for you who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with
healing in His wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let
out to pasture.”
Malachi 4:2
