Taking care of my “granddogs” is rewarding. Russell, a boxador, is an excellent alarm system. Charlie Brown, a bassett hound, is his loyal companion. They drive me crazy at times, but they also make me laugh often. Their personalities are different, and yet they complement each other nicely. Russell has chronic ear infections and one night he was up; pacing, whining, scratching and shaking his massive black head. There was nothing I could do. As he finally settled down on his bed, I heard a noise through the darkness and witnessed Charlie Brown gently licking Russell’s ear and cuddling with him. Shortly thereafter, Russell started snoring. It was one of the sweetest moments I’ve witnessed between animals. This made me think about my Father in heaven and how much He loves me. A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a Friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24
Heavenly Father, You are my friend. I know I’m not worthy of friendship with You, but because of Your Son’s sacrifice, I can be Your friend. You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; You are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue; Lord, You know it completely. You hem me in behind and before, and You lay Your Hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Amen.
